Mr Omar Sweeney

Omar Sweeney is an astute Engineering Professional with a wealth of experience of nearly three decades, specializing in the areas of Civil, Construction Engineering and Project Management. Throughout his professional career, he has successfully led the charge for several major Government-related and social intervention programmes and infrastructural projects.

He has been appointed by the Prime Minister of Jamaica, to serve on the Professional Engineers Registration Board, where he served as Chairman for two terms. He also served as President of the Jamaica Institution of Engineers. Prior to his appointment at the JSIF, Mr. Sweeney has served in senior leadership roles at the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) and the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ). Mr. Sweeney also serves as the Deputy Chairman to the Prime Minister of Jamaica for the Zones Of Special Operations (also referred to as ZOSO) in Jamaica.

He is the holder of a Master of Engineering Degree from the University of Florida. He also successfully completed post-graduate executive training programmes at the London School of Economics and the University of Oxford. In recognition of his sterling contribution to the public service, in particular, the Jamaica Social Investment Fund, he is a proud recipient of a national honour, Order of Distinction in the Commander (CD) rank.
