'Tek-a-Hike’, new attraction at Dunn’s River Falls & Park
Tek-A-Hike, a guided hiking experience, is the newest product offering at the world-famous Dunn’s River Falls & Park (DRFP).
Tek-A-Hike joins a packed list of activities at the nature park as the UDC evolves and expands its offerings at DRFP, all in an effort to meet the needs of Jamaicans and the rebounding tourism market.
Tek-A-Hike officially opened to the public on Saturday, March 26, 2022. Prior to the launch, Loop News travelled to the garden parish for a first-hand experience.
The two-mile hiking adventure that’s packaged as a “family trail”, loops and winds into the vast forested areas on the historic Belmont property.
The trail begins at the Tranquillity Gardens and takes hikers past hidden streams and long-forgotten historic ruins (dating back to the 1600s).
The hike culminates at the DRFP Nursery, where patrons will have the opportunity to purchase plants and/or adopt a tree. Adopted trees form part of the DRFP Reforestation and Conservation Programme.
Lisa Golding, deputy general manager – Subsidiary Management and Revenue Generation at the UDC, acknowledged that “it is important to keep the offerings at Dunn’s River relevant. We’ve found that, while our guests love Dunn’s River, particularly the falls climb, they crave new and exciting experiences and we have a wonderful property that has so much more to offer.”
Tek-A-Hike, Golding says, is the first of new, refreshed attractions to enjoy at Dunn’s River, “and we invite all Jamaicans and persons visiting Jamaica to come and experience it.”
Tek-A-Hike will operate on weekends with tour time starting at 9 am, 11.30 am and 2 pm.
Guests may pre-book here with their preferred day and time. Adults may access Tek-A-Hike for J$3,500, while the rate for children is J$2000, (these rates are specific to the Tek-A-Hike package).
The rates include access to the hike, the falls climb, the beach, the Splash Pad and the gardens.
“Come and expect to be immersed in nature and be blown away by the hidden gems you see along the trail. Expect an adventure, expect relaxation, expect learning about some of our endemic plants and animals. Be ready to learn about the rich history of the Belmont Property at The World Famous Dunn’s River Falls & Park.” - UDC’s Tourism Recovery Team Lead, Denise Chin.
